Blueprint Magazine Hiring 2021-2022

Blueprint, Laurier’s quarterly literary fine arts magazine that publishes visual art, photography, prose and more, is currently looking to hire students for internship positions for the 2021-2022 academic year.

If you’re interested in web or visual design, production, marketing, or event planning, and want to make next year Blueprint‘s best yet, make sure you get involved!

The preliminary application process will close on Friday, April 9 @ 5:00 p.m. Hiring will re-open after this period, at which point the application process will be ongoing for vacant positions.

NOW HIRING: PRODUCTION MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Production Manager will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief on the physical production of each issue. Having a strong influence on the design of page layouts, image selection, and the overall look of Blueprint, the Production Manager should have acute design and computer skills.

They also require a comprehension and desire to learn the process of production, the ability to dedicate specific time to the construction of the issue, and the ability to work efficiently both individually and in a group dynamic.

NOW HIRING: LITERARY MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Literary Editor is someone who has a critical and comprehensive eye for the writing of others. In charge of the written content within Blueprint, the Literary Editor must also submit at minimum one original piece every issue.

They should have strong interpersonal skills, as they will be tasked with communicating with contributors and encouraging others to contribute. Also, the Literary Editor must have strong reading and writing skills, as editing, proofreading, and critical examination of text are imperative to this position.

NOW HIRING: ART & PHOTOGRAPHY MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Art and Photography Manager will oversee all visual content of Blueprint, in part by forging connections with other artists and photographers, both on campus and in the community. They must contribute original work to each issue.

The Art and Photography Manager must also work with the Editor-in-Chief in finding and contacting artists to design cover art for each issue. A passionate interest in art and photography is important for this position, as are strong design and artistic skills, interpersonal skills, and action plans to gather a wide variety of different mediums of art to include within issues.

NOW HIRING: PROMOTIONS MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Promotions Manager will be integral to publicizing Blueprint’s name and image, both on campus and in the community. By creating original ad campaigns, holding concourse booths, and placing posters on campus with issue and event advertisements, the Promotions Manager will have a significant impact on Blueprint’s image.

Skills and experience within marketing, knowledge of multiple mediums that materials can be made and promoted in, and a creative approach are important for this position. Strong social media skills are also essential.


NOW HIRING: EVENTS MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Events Manager plans and facilitates launch parties, and assists the art and literary departments in hosting events such as workshops.

They are responsible for booking spaces, envisioning each event’s unique aesthetic, and obtaining decorations and catering. Candidates should have experience or interest in events planning or project coordination.


NOW HIRING: WEB EDITOR

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: The Web Editor will work closely with the EIC and Promotions Manager to ensure that Blueprint has a strong web presence and content strategy. Individual responsibilities will include uploading the issues (in PDF form) to the website, collaborating on a social media strategy, and ensuring web content is up to date.

Experience with WordPress and knowledge of basic HTML and/or CSS is an asset, but not a requirement. Candidates should, however, show a willingness to learn the basics of web design and upkeep.

There is a lot of opportunity for creativity in this role and candidates are encouraged to take initiative to fulfil their vision for Blueprint’s web strategy, whether that involves regular blog posts, issue-themed playlists, an e-newsletter, or other online methods of reader engagement.

NOW HIRING: BRANTFORD MANAGER

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Blueprint Magazine

Job Description: While overseeing Blueprint’s distribution on the Brantford campus, the Brantford Manager will work with the Editor-in-Chief to discuss functionality, productivity, and possibilities of how Brantford can be more included and become more aware of Blueprint. The Brantford Manager also will be responsible for supporting the efforts of the other Brantford Staff.


NOW HIRING: WEB INTERN

Reports to: Web Editor

Job Description: In collaboration with the executive web editor, Blueprint Web Interns will have the opportunity to assist in web presence and content strategy. Interns will have the opportunity to get their feet wet and develop their skills with the basics of web design and upkeep, so an enthusiasm to learn is important for this position.

Job Description:  Production Interns will have the opportunity to work aside the production manager to ensure the quality and construction of the issue. Interns must work efficiently both individually and in a group dynamic.

Job Description:  In collaboration with the promotions manager, Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to publicizing Blueprint’s brand and perception, both on campus and in the community. Interns will have the opportunity to have a significant impact on Blueprint’s name and image.

Job Description:  Interns work along with the events manager to help maintain and facilitate launch parties and workshops. Individuals will have the opportunity to assist the art and literary departments with planning and coordination of events.
